Sha Tin New Town Plaza | LEGO Hong Kong launches "Play Mode" this summer, calling on LEGO to create fun family time.
Description
This summer, LEGO Hong Kong activates city-wide 'Play Mode' and partners with Lo Duc to create fun family moments. The LEGO® Play Well Study1 surveyed 45,000 parents and children globally, finding that over 90% of parents agree that play is essential for a child's development but is not prioritized. Among the Hong Kong families surveyed, a remarkable 96% wished for more playtime with their children, reflecting the precious nature of playtime for busy Hong Kong families.
In light of this, LEGO Hong Kong has partnered with Kowloon Motor Bus (1933) Limited ('KMB') and Shatin New Town Plaza, a landmark for family entertainment in Hong Kong, to bring creativity into daily life and jointly call upon the city to initiate 'Play Mode' with LEGO bricks.
For the first time, LEGO Hong Kong has collaborated with KMB to create an interactive LEGO bus stop, transforming the mundane wait for the bus into a fun moment for families. As the journey begins, the play mode extends to Shatin New Town Plaza, where a four-meter-tall Lo Duc becomes a vibrant DJ, leading families through seven interactive play experience zones that blend trendy music, digital art, and sensory entertainment. The highlight is a LEGO-style giant 'Ultimate Peace Challenge', a reinterpretation of a classic Hong Kong game, inviting the whole city to 'Turn on Play Mode'.
LEGO Interactive Bus Stop: Lo Duc Takes You on a Journey of Creative Imagination
Starting from July 24, Lo Duc will take everyone on a journey of creative imagination. Local LEGO Certified Professional Andy Hung has used LEGO bricks to create multiple interactive bus stops that will pop up across Hong Kong. Lo Duc takes center stage and reimagines familiar community landscapes in whimsical ways: transforming the Tsim Sha Tsui Space Museum into a delicious pineapple bun, turning cycling in Tseung Kwan O into a magical carpet ride, and reshaping Shatin's mountain view into an ice cream mountain. While waiting for the bus, children and parents can imagine a different side of the city.
Each interactive bus stop features a 'Fun Stop Sign' connected to a 'Bus Stop Bell' made of LEGO bricks, inviting people to play and press the bell to their heart's content. The 'Fun Stop Sign' includes classic bus sound effects, adding surprise and delight to the waiting experience. With each press of the sign, it also displays nearby fun spots, encouraging families to explore exciting places in the area while waiting for their bus.
During the activity, every weekend will feature a 'Play with You' challenge, inviting adults and children to use LEGO bricks to incorporate their creative travel ideas into the bus stop. After completing the activity, children will have the chance to receive a 'LEGO small gift' to accompany them on their summer journey (while supplies last).
Apart from the interactive LEGO bus stops, Lo Duc will also pop up in various corners of Hong Kong this summer, leading everyone to discover more fun locations. During the activity, the public can track Lo Duc's whereabouts and explore these fun spots through the KMB and LWB smartphone apps.
Shatin New Town Plaza Extends the 'Play Mode' Fever: Seven Interactive Challenges Push the Limits of Play
The 'Play Mode' fever continues at Shatin New Town Plaza, where a four-meter-tall Lo Duc becomes a vibrant DJ, combining creative technology with immersive entertainment. Families are invited to move their bodies and twist to the beats, releasing their playful energy and fully engaging in the multi-sensory experience.
The 'Turn on Play Mode' event features three main themed areas with seven interactive experiences in total. It blends LEGO bricks with trendy music, digital art, classic Hong Kong games, physical movement, and creative building, creating a fully immersive play scenario that stimulates multiple senses. Participants can become DJs, mix music, and move to the summer beats, igniting the atmosphere. They can also turn into fashion designers and unleash their creativity on an 85-inch digital graffiti wall, designing exclusive outfits for 'Lo Duc'. In addition to the visual and auditory sensations, there's a 'Super Cube' interactive game that challenges agility and teamwork, showcasing the synergy and vitality across generations.
Beyond the interactive experiences, the play mode also revives a classic 1980s Hong Kong game, the 'Ultimate Peace Challenge'. Participants can use LEGO bricks to build 'flags', 'airplanes', or 'cannons' and engage in a supersized intergenerational showdown, feeling the thrill and tension of physical interaction.
Moreover, LEGO Certified Professional Andy Hung and the local player team 'Legend Bricks' have joined forces to create a micro-landmark exhibition themed 'Creative City'. They have meticulously recreated several visually stunning city memories, including a three-meter-tall 'LEGO Clock Tower' and a series of iconic Shatin landmarks infused with collective memories: 'Lion Rock' reconstructed with a Tetris concept, 'Shatin Cultural Museum' surrounded by a racecourse and featuring a childhood classic 'Checkers Board Game' on its exterior walls, and the Shing Mun River landscape. A building zone encourages adults and children to build their cityscapes together, embracing the infinite possibilities that play brings through creativity and collaboration.
This summer, LEGO Hong Kong believes that play doesn't need to wait for special occasions but can happen during every journey and around every corner. Starting July 24, everyone is invited to follow Lo Duc and turn on their Play Mode, transforming the city into the biggest playground and creating summer play memories for the whole family.
